Good… Good. That sounded just about perfect…
The more protections they had at this point, the better.
“Heh heh! I can tell you like the idea,” Sparkler grinned, crossing her arms as she leaned back, “Course you’ll need Irene ta set this all up. Then once it is, heh! You can bet ya won’t see me settin’ foot in here, or anywhere near that forest again. Not that I’ll miss it.”
“I suppose you wouldn’t.”
Though Link would certainly feel worse, with one less person able to help set things straight.
The thought didn’t appear to cross Sparkler’s mind as she shrugged at Zelda’s reply.
“Yeeeah. I mean the mist for one is the worst. Then there’s all the puddles an’ wet patches of grass everywhere. I can’t just come and go when I want to. I have ta be warped in, an’ then people forget I’m in their bag… You’re world is huge and full of all sorts of amazing things to stumble on. Something new practically around every corner. It’s one’ve the reasons why I came to your world. It’s just so exciting and free…!”
With a blinding grin, Sparkler was practically floating on her back. Reaching upwards at that final exclamation, before she remembered her company. Pulling her hands back as she faced them again with a bashful smile.
“Heh! That being said, uh. I can live without setting foot in one location.”

Zelda frowned softly in thought.
“Do you think it would truly work like that…?”
She didn’t like to be pessimistic. But if there was any possibility of failure or harm…
Sparkler opened her mouth, though paused and closed it again as her brow suddenly creased. Staring off as she considered the possibilities before humming.
“Against viruses like me? Definitely. The mist alone is enough to ruin any energy based virus’ day. Add some anti-virus to it an’ suddenly you’ve got a deadly cloud that’ll put an end ta even the fastest virus. Viruses made from more soild stuff won’t be able to pass through it either, not without destroying themselves… There are some viruses that can pass through code. Or can be downloaded straight into the vault by a careless Player. Or can just form in the vault from errors an’ whatnot. Nothing can really stop those from getting in here, though we’re talking about viruses that can probably be cleared up by Dr Mario in you see ‘im… As for the downloadable viruses.. . Hm, well that’s all really in the Player’s hands. You think they might download some shady mods?”
Zelda shook her head.
“Absolutely not. With the hours they keep, we’re fairly certain our Player is a child.”
Very little or nothing in the early morning. A few hours in the evening, or a burst of activity on the weekends. Nothing late at night. Typical of a schoolgoing child.
“Then you shouldn’t have ta worry about them at all!” Sparkler nodded with a grin, “You’ll have ah safe space for people to hunker down in, just in case. And ah barrier that trouble makers can’t pass through, and try any tricky business around or with the pedestal.”

Zelda frowned softly.
“That would be quite a lot of people…”
It concerned her. Unless they made a general rule and listed the few exceptions, it would certainly take a while for them to piece together a list of everyone they couldn’t trust.
“Yeah, it would,” Sparkler frowned, turning her gaze back to the model in thought.
“At least at first you could probably start with a list of those who can enter. I mean that shouldn’t be too long. You, Link, Twilight… all the Koroks, Irene, Jay… Not too long, right?”
Zelda nodded a bit.
“Right.”
Much simpler… though it would still take a bit of time to make sure the Koroks weren’t locked out of their own home.
“Then later on you could take the anti-virus coding from the Master Sword and apply it to the barrier,” Sparkler suggested casually, “Give it a buff and create a safe space for everyone against any threats in the future… Ya know, if you ever get a repeat of all this.”
Zelda frowned softly in thought.

Zelda hesitated.
“How…? Especially considering the Koroks need to be able to leave, and the Player needs to be able to enter.”
“Of course!”
Sparkler nodded as a jagged, miniature figure of Link surged up from her energy. Sparking and buzzing as it risked bursting apart, until it reached some level of stability as the doll landed standing on the palm of her hand.
“We gotta make sure that the right people can get through. But the thing about you sprites is that you all kinda have your own special ID tucked away in your codes. For example our little Linky Lue here is the one and only Link of this game. Key words! This game. There are thousands of other Links from thousands of other copies of this game. Heck! With how big your franchise is, I’d be surprised of he wasn’t in a couple spin offs as well.”
Turning her head, she squinted at the little Link in thought.
“I think there’s actually ah fightin’ game usin’ this model of ‘im right now. Thought I saw it on my way in here. Anyway.”
Turning back, she held out the tiny Link for them to see while keeping a distance from them.
“This Link is from game copy blah, from Switch model ID number meh, owned by Player Fakeusername. All this personal info and more is used to create a unique ID for Link. And this ID can potentially be used for a number of other things, such as prevent him from passing through an invisible barrier should it be added to a cannot pass through list in the code of said barrier.”
“Interesting… Then by isolating this unique ID code, you can program it to not only allow him while disallowing other sprites in our game, but also disallowing any… copies, for lack of a better word, originating from other games.”
She hadn’t known coding managed to get so specific as that.
“Exactly!”
Sparkler grinned, aiming a finger gun at her though accidentally sending the tiny Link flying in the process. The figure quickly fizzling out in a small burst of sparks once it left the stability she’d provided.
“Oh, whoops! Heh…! I actually got the idea from a kinda sorta friend back home. Surge Protector… He’s pretty much the guardian of the GCS an’ all the games that are plugged into it. And whenever a sprite passes through, he can detect and decide if he wants ta stop them. For us though, we wanna focus on the IDs of people we want to keep from passing through the forest barrier. Makin’ it so that they can’t cause any trouble here again.”
Zelda frowned softly.

Zelda hesitated a moment… but nodded.
“Alright… What’s your plan?”
Sparkler nodded in return, holding out her hands as she started.
“Okay… So, uh… Keep in mind, this is all stuff for later.”
Releasing her hold on her suit, she left it to drift in the weightlessness of the vault. Turning to herself as she reached down and pulled a thin, stretching portion of her own body out into her hand. Thinking nothing of it as it curled around her wrist as if it had a life of its own. Until she grabbed hold and shaped it into a jagged, miniature version of the Lost Wood Close to the size of a dinner plate, complete with the Deku Tree standing above the rest of the forest as the entire model floated over her palm.
“So! You know how certain areas on the map are contained within invisible barriers?”
Zelda nodded a little, admittedly slightly distracted by the display.
“Yes, I am familiar.”
There were the shrines, for one. And the Divine Beasts. And if they really wanted to get broader, their entire game was encased in those boundaries.
Sparkler nodded back, turning her attention down to the model as a translucent stretched over like a dome to enclose it.
“Well, when I first walked in there with Twilight. I noticed that the entire forest is surrounded by one’ve those barriers. How? Well the weather suddenly shifted when we stepped through it, before we even reached the mist! It’s likely there to create atmosphere, I mean havin’ the sun suddenly vanish on ya certainly is spooky. But! I was thinkin’ maybe we use this barrier to keep people out.”
Zelda hesitated.

Zelda refocused, her expression growing more serious.
“Right… So next, we should focus on the Korok Woods and Lost Forest. That would be where the other Blights spawned, and they would have caused significant damage as well. Especially if Link and the other Champions had caught up to them before they were despawned. We should also see if we can re-enable the protections warding the forest.
“Ooooh yeah,” Sparkler grimaced, sinking a foot as she remembered the state of the woods, “They really did a number on the woods. Knocked down trees. Fire an’ ice everywhere. I don’t remember seein’ any Koroks around, though that might’ve also been cuz of the Sheikah there waitin’ to ambush us… I didn’t see anything in the Lost Woods though. Can’t set foot in there… What kinda protections are we talkin’ about. Ya know, besides evil mist.”
“Divine mist.” Zelda corrected.
“But the forest doesn’t really have any offensive protections. The only enemies are a part of the trial paths - the main entrance is clear of everything but the mist. That is usually enough… The Koroks are not warriors - they’re more akin to children than anything. And the Great Deku Tree, while wise, is mostly immobile. For anyone to attack the forest… It is a heinous offence.”
Sparkler grew oddly quiet as she processed everything Zelda said. Her mouth growing thin as her gaze drifted down, the playful air she was known for missing as she thought deeply. Mulling over their options… and what was best for the game in the long run.
“Okay…” she lifted her hardened gaze as she spoke slow and clear, “I’ve gotta idea for how to keep these rouge Sheikah from ever setting foot in there again. It could also keep viruses unlike me from getting close to the hidden entrance to the vault. You know, viruses that divine evil mist won’t stop like it does for energy based viruses like yours truly. It all has to do with the invisible barrier around the forest, and the Master Sword… Though, it might have to wait for Irene to get back…”
Zelda hesitated a moment… but nodded.
